Petting Zoo: White rhinos find safe home in Rwanda

White rhinos are one of the largest land mammals. They can weigh up to nearly 8,000 pounds and be up to six feet tall, according to . Despite their large size, rhinos are no match for poachers.

Illegal killings of white rhinos have led to their numbers dwindling. Only two female northern white rhinos are alive today, meaning the species will likely go extinct without exceptional help from scientists.

Southern white rhinos are also under protection since there are only about 20,000 of them left. Conservationists at the in Rwanda hope that adding the 30 new rhinos to their park will help secure a safe place for the rhino population to grow.
